“Service Learning in Health and Wellness” is a course offered by CCAPP at The City College of NY, which guides students to learn through hands-on services that address health issues in Harlem.
We've worked on making healthy snacks available in school vending machines, improved school cafeteria’s recycling, convinced local bodegas to offer healthy lunches, hosted farmers’ market, and developed a Healthy Living Guide with cancer prevention tips.

Increase in Colon Cancer Screening Rates
I read an article that claimed that the Patient Navigator campaign started by NYC in 2003 has significantly boosted colon cancer screening rates. A study conducted by researchers at Columbia University supposedly made this discovery but I probably won't be able to find the exact study on my own online. Here's the article with some astounding figures.

Wow this is interesting. I didn't think that the numbers would have increased that much
ReplyDeleteYes, that is a great increase. I guess we can see how important these programs are for the community and we need more focus and funding for more programs like this that help patients. These stats should be used to assist funding for more programs to start up (like Eileens!)
