Medicaid for Immigrants who are Not Permanent Residents

Hey Class,

This article pertains to Medicaid for Immigrants who are Not Permanent Residents. My group was given a case with a person who fits this profile. I'm currently brainstorming projects that can meet the educational barriers of immigrant cancer patients by promoting awareness of programs that meet their specific needs such as Emergency Medicaid.

  1. Apparently Harlem Hospital and the Ralph Lauren Center have funds for providing cancer treatment for undocumented people without insurance. These are specific funds, and I don't know how one would access them except by getting a screening with a program that is connected to those institutions, and facilitates people getting low/no-cost care (like the Northern Manhattan Cancer Screening Partnership at Columbia Pres).

  2. This is was an interesting article because I didn't know that NY residents without a greencard could access Medicaid. This is very beneficial, especially for minimum wage workers without insurance and those who are unemployed due to health issues. More outreach should be done to let undocumented residents know their rights, because oftentimes, they don't seek preventative and ememergency medical services because they are afraid of being deported.
