“Service Learning in Health and Wellness” is a course offered by CCAPP at The City College of NY, which guides students to learn through hands-on services that address health issues in Harlem.
We've worked on making healthy snacks available in school vending machines, improved school cafeteria’s recycling, convinced local bodegas to offer healthy lunches, hosted farmers’ market, and developed a Healthy Living Guide with cancer prevention tips.

Limit red meat to 500g a week to reduce cancer
I just came across this information regarding how much red meat we should consume to help reduce our risk of developing cancer. They even go into telling you that one stake would use up an individual's 2 day allowance. It reminds me of the recommended daily allowance we have for certain nutrients in our body. You often find one can of soup contains 80% of your RDA of sodium which makes it difficult to stay within one's limit. Just imagine how often we go over our recommended allowance per day when we eat sausages in the morning, a cheeseburger for lunch and maybe some ham for dinner.

I understand your concerns. My family eats alot of rice, some stew, and a small amount of chicken. Its really hard to change the dynamics of the portion sizes, especially if your body i s craving the rice of the pasta.
ReplyDeleteI know where you are coming from because most of my family members, on the Caribbean and Mexican side, LOVE read meat. The recipes used are from older generations that has been passed down.
ReplyDeleteAnother question would be if people are willing to change or alter some of their recipes that are from previous generations to accommodated the daily allowance.
