“Service Learning in Health and Wellness” is a course offered by CCAPP at The City College of NY, which guides students to learn through hands-on services that address health issues in Harlem.
We've worked on making healthy snacks available in school vending machines, improved school cafeteria’s recycling, convinced local bodegas to offer healthy lunches, hosted farmers’ market, and developed a Healthy Living Guide with cancer prevention tips.

CSA: Community Supported Agriculture
Yesterday during the sale, one of our customers introduced and told me about CSA: community supported agriculture. CSA is a way for people to buy local foods directly from a farmer. People who buy from CSA are offered certain advantages, such as fresh food, knowledge of where the food came from and who they are buying from, and new ways of being exposed to new vegetables. This sounds like a great way of buying fresh food and perhaps, a possible project or direction for future service learning classes.

This is very similar to an idea we were considering for the first semester. Jyoti had wanted to get students to create youth farms where local high school students would have a chance to give back to their community by selling fruits and vegetables similar to what we did. Maybe we can start a club that does a weekly farmers market.
