NYC DOH continuing to change the health environment of NYC

From today's Daily News : an article about the NYC DOH considering a new tax on alcohol, similar to the one imposed on cigarettes. The goal of the new tax is to get NYC residents to drink less - and live healthier lives.

This tax also fits into the goals of the DOH's Get Healthy New York 2012 initiative, which aims to reduce high school drinking by 16% and alcohol related hospitalizations by 19% by 2012.

  1. To all of my wonderful students:)

Where do you thinkthe tax money should go??

There are similar scenarios for environmental problems like coal mines and industries which can pollute environment, can end up being highly taxed for emmissions!! Where all this money should go??
Should it go to people living near these mines, industries ?
Should it go into fed reserve? Or something else ???

  2. I think the tax money should go towards engineering and science/ math studies.

If we can find an alternative way to extract earths resources to prevent emissions, we just may find a way to protect our earth. So funding engineering and science/math programs can get us one step closer.

  4. I agree that tax money should go to the health care system (health insurance), but I also think that it should go to Medical Research since that's the way to finding cures for diseases. Finally, tax money should go to undeserved communities to help end poverty.
